The Medical Team Associate performs non-clinical inpatient care-coordination in order to assist resident physician and advance practice providers. Increases efficiencies leading to improved hospital bed utilization by facilitating early morning discharges. Coordinates both interdepartmental and intradepartmental inpatient activities that occur during/after daily rounds within the department based on currently approved policies and procedures recognized by the Hospital. The Medical Team Associate functions as an integral member of the health care team under the direction of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine and Complex Care Divisions as well as the Boston Combined Residency Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing non-clinical inpatient care-coordination in order to assist resident physician providers and to increasing efficiencies leading to improved hospital bed utilization.
- Coordinating both interdepartmental and intradepartmental inpatient activities that occur during/after daily rounds within the department based on currently approved policies and procedures recognized by the Hospital.
- Participating in daily morning rounds with the inpatient care team where roles include facilitating coordination between the primary team and consulting teams or outpatient continuity teams, coordinating rounds with nursing staff, scheduling interpreters for rounds, assisting with any tasks that are required by the inpatient multidisciplinary team.
- Facilitating the management plans for each patient as discussed during rounds – including but not limited to scheduling inpatient and future outpatient tests, consultations, and follow up appointments, obtaining outside records, laboratory data, and imaging from other hospitals and institutions, calling pharmacies to confirm outpatient prescriptions and determine need for prior authorization, facilitating prior authorizations in consultation with the CCS team, etc.
- Providing full administrative support to the care team including submitting requests for computer and phone support, assisting in coordinating family and team meetings (including booking rooms when necessary), collaborating with all members of the inter-professional patient care team, including social work and case management.
- Participating in departmental quality improvement efforts and research (including data collection), in order to facilitate efficient delivery of the highest quality care.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- The knowledge of medical terminology and other theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Science.
Experience:
- A minimum of one year of experience in a related role is preferred
- Proficiency in use of MS Windows and Office and ability to train in and use various aspects of the electronic medical record, including EPIC preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, with ability to multi-task and function proactively and anticipate needs of physicians and/or patients.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and the rest of the inter-professional team.
- Advanced communication skills in order to persuade and negotiate with others on important matters.
- Compliance with all national and hospital regulatory guidelines such as HIPAA requirements, and the highest ethical standards, particularly related to integrity, honesty and confidentiality.
